Studies have suggested that patients carrying a BRCA variant of uncertain significance (VUS) may have lingering confusion concerning results interpretation and healthcare recommendations. Interestingly, the interpretation and counseling for uninformative BRCA-negative results is thought to be more straightforward, despite the same lack of actionable information. We compared distress levels, risk appropriateness of preventive strategies, and opinions about genetic counseling in VUS patients versus uninformative-negative (UN) patients. Follow-up questionnaires from 72 VUS patients were compared to 777 UN patients, all counseled at City of Hope. Statistical analyses were performed with Pearson's Chi-square and Fisher's Exact test. No statistical differences were found with respect to preventive strategies, cancer distress, and satisfaction regarding genetic counseling and testing. Eleven percent of VUS carriers and 6.9% of UN patients opted for risk reducing mastectomy (p=0.317) and 2.3% of VUS and 2% of UN patients opted for prophylactic oophorectomy (p=0.640). Difference was seen among the minority of patients that did not find the counseling process helpful (7% and 6%, respectively), 100% of VUS patients versus 34% of UN patients attributed this to a lack of knowledge gain (p
