Mr. Harrell attends Palo Verde College and is currently taking classes for the Alcohol and Drug Studies to obtain certification from the California Certification Board for Alcohol and Drug Counselors. Mr. Harrell is incarcerated for 1st degree robbery. A crime where one day unable to afford the drugs he had become addicted to, he robbed his drug dealer. He is now serving 28 years in state prison. During his time in prison, Mr. Harrell began taking self-help groups, courses and programs. Through it all one thing continued to come up. Not just with Mr. Harrell. but with many of the men in the groups. The majority were finding the course work far too clinical to keep their interest Throughout the years Mr. Harrell attempted to correct this by seeking things written by prisoners. He continued to run into the same issues. With the prisoners workbooks he began to notice another theme. Though they were not Doctors, most all seemed to feel they needed to emulate how doctors speak. This led to something along the lines of what was going on with all the medical terms, only now there was the additional confusion. Mr. Harrell also found that others had tried to simplify the lessons with a dumbed down version. Many men seemed to be insulted by the simplicity of the lessons. Mr. Harrell reached the conclusion that there was a need for some version that landed-between medical hyperbole and playground rhetoric. It is up to the manor whether or not that has been achieved Every course within this self-help book was painstakingly written with the preceding in Mind and it Is the hope of Mr. Harrell that this con be of some aid in your quest for sod-improvement.
