"Egon Steuer (1935) grew up in Košice in Czechoslovakia. During World War II he was constantly on the run with his family, escaping the Holocaust in doing so. After the war, he was able to get out from under the communist regime thanks to a successful career in sports. As coach of the Dutch national basketball team he came to Amsterdam in 1966. After his return from France, where Steuer worked as a coach from 1970 to 1978 for clubs in Antibes and Nice, he worked as an architect in Amsterdam for five years. In 1982 he became the CEO of housing association Ons Belang. Steuer retired in 2001 after working in public housing for almost twenty years." -- back cover.
