When he was professor in the Calcutta University he was appointed to compiled and edit the collection Ballads from different part of Bengal. The British Government had adorned him with the Rai Bahadur title in 1921 and with D.Litt by the Calcutta University in recognition of pioneering work in this field. His publications include Mymensingh Geetika, Eastern Bengal Ballads Vols. 1-4, Bengali Ramayan Chaitanya and his Age and so on. Introduction by Dr. Sila Basak, Ph.D., D.Litt., FRAS (London), Born in Kolkata, 1947, Working as an academic attached to the Department of Folklore and Language Studies with various Universities. She is also associated with the training and research programmes in Folkloristics of the Asiatic Society, Kolkata.
