George Lestrade is an FBI agent in need. Faced with a kidnapping he can't seem to crack, he has no choice but to visit the Cedarview Institute and the occupant of the padded room that has been designated 221-B. There, in Baker Ward, resides an unstable genius, a woman by the name of Sherlock Holmes. Anti-social, aggressive, and institutionalized, she can solve any puzzle she is presented with, treating the people she encounters as little more than playing pieces in a great game of her own devising. Too dangerous to be allowed to work independently, Lestrade arranges to have her released under the care of Dr. Jane Watson, her long suffering therapist. With the two women working as one, Lestrade can only hope that the case will be brought to a swift end. Those hopes are quickly dashed when Watson and Holmes are ensnared in a web of lies that surrounds both the kidnapping and the theft of a device known only as "The Blue Carbuncle", a digital skeleton key that can unlock the world's secrets. Forced to square off against a hostile tech company, the NSA, and a rogue faction of the FBI, the case threatens to overwhelm both women as their fragile working relationship begins to crumble. As they begin to dig deeper in an attempt to find the truth, their efforts threaten to reveal a dark secret that lies buried in their shared past... one that could destroy their future.
