Twenty-seven -year-old Abigail Gifford a writer, raised in a London orphanage, travels to Big Bend Texas to meet her biological aunt, Miss Hannah Comstock her only living relative for the first-time, to learn more about her mother's family. However, it turns out that Auntie Hannah, a Texas native and battle-ax who had invited Abigail to stay at her house for the summer, had, in fact, left for Mexico before her arrival to pursue an old lover. Therefore, Abigail was left on her own to do or to discover her surroundings with only Maggie, her aunt's housekeeper to keep an eye on her. Upon arriving at Big Bend, Abigail meets two sweet older ladies, Miss Charlotte and Lily May, who burn a light in their attic window every Friday night. This mystery was a life saver for Abigail Gifford. Intrigued by Miss Charlotte, and Lily May's light, Abigail starts to investigate, and her curiosity encounters a conclusion she will never forget her entire life. While in Big Bend visiting, Abigail meets Clint Ward, a handsome and famous fiction writer from Austin, who resembles Miss Charlotte's decease husband. Realizing they have many things in common, and believing in the supernatural and reincarnation, they discover many things about themselves. Through fate, and perhaps a little celestial intervention, Abigail, and Clint, fall in love, and find much happiness in a weird and wonderful way.
