In due course, he learns that his mother was arrested, tried and shot for speaking out against Hitler. The boy who is now a twenty seven year old bitter and angry man is determined to confront those who had so cruelly killed his mother and, in doing so, sets in motion a string of events leading to murder, intrigue and scandal uncovering previously hidden war crimes the exposure of which threatened to bring down the post war West German government.
