Mark Marshall a middle aged computer technician lives in Newcastle, Australia. He visits his small farm in the country, where he discovers a spring not far from the house. After he tastes the spring water, he discovers that most of the lines on his face disappear. He becomes stronger and much healthier. He decides to keep this secret from everybody. At the same time, he also discovers that he is able to read other people's minds, and know of events that are likely to occur in the future. One day he goes fishing with his friend, Jonathan. Mark's rod gets a strong jerk. To his great surprise, he catches a venomous jelly fish (mendusa), which stings him with one of its tentacles. Mark cries out, expressing enormous pain. He falls into a coma. Jonathan kills the jellyfish and removes the poisonous tentacle from Mark's leg. Then he calls the ambulance. Mark is taken to hospital. While in hospital, he had been talking in his sleep about the miraculous spring water. After several months in hospital, he returns home. He sells his house in Newcastle and moves to Sydney. One of the nurses from the hospital where he was convalescing for a long time, and whom he did not remember, asks him to fix her computer. He realizes that she has other plans. He pretends to be under alcohol's influence, and he departs from the nurse's house. One day on the racecourse, he discovers that he can foretell the winner. He earns a fortune on the races and donates some of it to charities. In his job, he meets Elizabeth who is a novelist. They fall in love. Elizabeth is not aware of Mark's farm, and the spring water. Eventually she becomes aware of Mark's ability to win at the races. She moves in with Mark. They take a trip around the world. In New York he can foretell that the plane they were going to board the next day, is going to crash on arrival in London. His vision comes true, and the plane crashes. They catch the next plane to London. After returning to Sydney, Gerald, the nurse's boyfriend, kidnaps Elizabeth. He wants to know the address of the farm in order to be able to steal water from there. With police help, they find where Elizabeth is held, but Gerald and his accomplices escape the police. One evening as they are coming home from the city, they discover that two men are trying to open the back door of their house. Mark surprises them and bashes them. One of the burglars was Gerald.
