The Morgan Brothers have been through a lot.The eldest was a Marine, caught under a collapsed building. Several surgeries, and months of rehab, have kept him away from his brothers. While Jason was off, recuperating, the two younger brothers were dealing with the sudden and tragic death of their parents and grandparents. Settling their estates was hard enough, but the three brothers realizing that none of them wanted to carry on the family business was even harder.Once the business sold, the oldest brother recovered, and the inheritance split, none of them knew what to do with their lives. Jason had been honorably discharged from the military. And the other two had worked in the family business, out of a sense of obligation. Now, they had nothing to do.Then, one day, Jason spies a listing for an island for sale. The state of Maryland was selling it off at a discounted price, and included a now defunct lighthouse.Once in Maryland, Jason befriends a marina owner, one that will allow him to keep a boat slip or two handy, so he can come and go from the island. The ad for the island was the one thing that managed to get Jason up off the couch, and ideas churning around in his head. He packs a bag to check it out. Unbeknownst to him, the brothers are soon to follow, for an altogether different reason.Sammy Jo Young has spent the last three years putting her own life on hold, while caring for her parents. Now that they're gone, she's not sure what it is that she's supposed to do.Her uncle owns a marina in Maryland, just across from an island. Without a wife or children of his own, he's always left the offer on the table for her to go there and help him run it. In exchange, he'd set her up to inherit the land, upon his passing.Sammy had spent many summers there, working along the water, and had always enjoyed it. But it just seemed to her, that if she did go down there, it'd be yet another thing she'd done out of a sense of familial obligation. The problem is, she doesn't know what else to do, so she packs up and heads to the marina.Meeting her there, are two of her cousins, sisters Kelly and Kitty. They've signed on to help their uncle for yet another summer. With three cousins and three brothers coming into daily contact with one another, what possible antics could there be? And how might relationships ensue, if so many are grieving over lost parents, grandparents, and the very futures they had once envisioned? While some in the group are ready to move on, to enjoy something better, Jason and Sammy are left struggling. How do you pick up the pieces, when the pieces are scattered so far out of reach? And how do you open your heart, when it's already battered and bruised? And Uncle Jo? He knows the worth of his three nieces. He also quickly recognizes the worth of the three brothers. In Jo's mind, he sees an opportunity to end his lonely days. Afterall, if the brothers are going to work on that island, just across the water, and if his nieces can become involved with them, and maybe keep working for him year-round...Yes, sirree, if Jo gets his way, he'll never be lonely again. And if he needs to interfere from time to time to make it happen, then so be it. Because maybe, just maybe, it's about time some of Jo's own dreams start coming true. ***If you're interested in inter-book connections, read The Hitch, after reading this.
