Josie Slade was never fond of being born with a silver spoon in her mouth. Convinced his family would someday return, Charles boarded up the house exactly as it had been when they vanished and he built the farmhouse, where generations of the Toffoli family would live - and die - for years to come. Edward Toffoli, his wife Elsie, and their twin daughters Clara and Nellie would never be seen or heard from again. It was always assumed that Daniel Butler - the son of Edward Toffoli's wealthy boss and brother of Charles' eventual wife, Sophie - was responsible for the family's disappearance. After all, he had a motive since Edward had recently replaced him in his own father's will. Despite the assumptions, the mystery remained to be officially solved almost a century later. Josie begins having bizarre, unexplainable dreams and events occur as soon as she moves into the farmhouse. Unaware of the history - which includes one murder and two suicides, on top of the family's disappearance - she does not attribute the events to paranormal activity at first. But then, through her father, she meets parapsychologist Dr. Bianca Wheeler and her companion, historian Ken Mueller. What she learns through her new-found-friends will shake her to her core. While all of these events are taking place, Josie is making a life-changing self-discovery. All of her life, Josie had suffered from what her father called 'night terrors'. A psychologist himself, he had her document all of the horrible dreams of murder and kidnapping she would suffer from in what she called her 'dream journals'. Through conversations with her father and research she conducts regarding her past dream journals, she finally comes to accept the fact that she possesses psychic abilities. The so-called dreams she had been experiencing were not dreams at all but spirits coming to her in hopes she would help solve the mysteries of their deaths. And now the spirits of the Toffoli family were coming to her relentlessly in hopes she would be the one to finally crack the ninety-seven-year-old case.Josie has an important decision to make: does she accept that this is the life she is meant to live and use her abilities? Does she help to solve the mystery of the Toffoli family's whereabouts so they can finally rest in peace? Or does she pack up and run away as she always has?
