Justin Jones (1814-1889), who also wrote under the pseudonyms Captain Merry and Harry Hazel, was an American printer and dime novelist. He was printer of the weekly Hartford Pearl and Literary Gazette in 1834. In 1844 he was printer of a children's book - Sam Squab: The Boston Boy by John S. Adams - and in the same year he wrote a series of short stories under the pseudonym Harry Hazel. He authored more than forty dime novels during the 1840s and 50s. In 1853 alone he published six sea tales including The Flying Yankee; or, The Cruise of the Clippers and Harry Tempest; or, The Pirate's Protege. He issued a weekly story in his own paper - Harry Hazel's Yankee Blade. Other works include: Old Put; or, The Days of Seventy-Six (1850), The Brigand; or, The Mountain Chief (1852), The Rebel Bride: A Revolutionary Romance (1853), The Smuggler King!; or, The Rovers of the Antilles (1855), The Pirate's Son: A Sea Novel of Great Interest (1855), Jack Waid: The Cobbler of Gotham (1856) and The Doomed Ship; or, The Wreck of the Arctic Regions (1864).
