The Red Soil Way is the story of the life of people living in shanties by a red soil way. These people live from hand to mouth. They have no education, no ambition. They send their children to earn their bread anyhow. They work as guides to the tourists who come to enjoy the beauty of the place which is unique for its thick tropical forest that covers the rocky terrains with winding rivulets and serene waterfalls beckoning the tourists to spend some time by the side of its picturesque hills. There is a waterbody surrounded by green hills, providing scenic views for photography. The mesmerizing waterfalls at a high altitude and the small patches of forest covering the hillocks and rivulets reflect the essence of calm which makes the place one of the must-visit destinations for those who want to soothe their tired nerves for a while in the lap of nature. Though the place does not have much to explore, only the enchanting beauty attracts the tourists almost all the year round. The little children quarrel and fight to earn more. There is a girl among them. She is talented, but her background does not support her. Somehow her father got her admitted to a professional running club of the town which provided coaching to raw running talents to reach their potential. Pinky made it in the selection trial along with aspiring and elite runners. Before long, she grew to be a promising athlete with an attractive figure. Unlike professional sprinters, she developed a cumulative skeletal structure which had a balanced quantity of distribution of muscle and fat forming nice inflection points and the ratios of their circumferences. Aspiring elite girls looked at her out of the corner of their eyes. Now Pinky was a teenager, not a child. She understood many things ― she understood jealousy, she understood caste discrimination. She knew the meaning of the look in their eyes, and she distanced herself from them, but they always tried to find excuse to humiliate the poor girl anyhow. Pinky understood this, and she tried with the patience of a cow not to be trapped by provocation, turning a blind eye to all kinds of bullying and teasing. Thus, she put up with verbal violence of abusive comments and humiliating remarks for many days. She was called 'witch', she was called 'harlot', she did not protest, but she could not tolerate physical assault. She protested, and she was beaten. The authority was informed but except formal assurance, no action was taken. She thought that she would teach them a good lesson by her performance in the track. She scored a very good result in the exam, securing the highest percentage of marks in the school. In the prize-giving ceremony, she got prizes for regular attendance, good behaviour and good result. The municipality awarded her for her brilliant result on an occasion. The year passed, and ultimately, her aptitude and passion for sports led her to secure a scholarship from the state government. She won the favour of the coach Mr. Gupta, infuriating her enemies who now would not bother to waste time in mere verbal attack. They directly threatened to kill her unless she left the club. However, ultimately, she wins the favour of a rich man; but her sense of self respect stands between them. Thus, the story leads to an unpredictable tragedy.
