I am applying for visitation of my three grandchildren since my daughter's death. My daughter was reported missing March 7, 2006. Her partial remains washed up out of the ocean April 7, 2006. In our family tragedy, we have been denied any contact with our daughter's children ages 7,5, and 4. Before our daughter's disappearance and death, my husband, son, and I had a very close relationship with the children. We visited often, driving down to San Diego to stay a month at a time, or, when they moved up to Los Osos in San Luis Obispo County, seeing them for longer pe- riods. The children have spent time staying over at our houses for weeks at a time, especially the older child, Isaac. They are familiar with our two households, half acres, side by side with pool, grassy areas, bamboo, lots of space, and a roomy old ranch style house that we've owned for 44 years; where they love to build forts in, bounce on the beds, explore junk drawers, and work with their grandpa in his shop. We saw the children about once a month for long weekends, a week at a time or for a month at a time, depend- ing on their schedules. We always celebrated the holidays with them. There are many photo albums and video tapes to attest to this. Alan Bowers, the grandfather, my husband is a retired UAL pilot who loves his grandchildren and shows them how to use his tools and build cars and planes; and how to play chess. Uncle Adam is 43, the only uncle they have, and loves his nephews and neice dearly. We are a family who miss the children terribly since their mother's death. Alan and Adam were allowed to visit at rst and then denied visitation; their few visits were highly supervised and monitored: told they could watch the kid's softball game from the sidelines and let them come up and hug them and then run back into the game. They were not allowed to take them out for dinner or be alone with them for outings. The other grandparents stayed off to themselves watching the interaction of Alan with the children and never approached Alan to say hello or comment on our daughter's death.
