The Gower Coast in Wales holds many mysteries, legends and ghost stories. Rhossili beach has a Coach and Horses ghost that charges erratically across the beach at midnight. In 1834 a fortune of silver Spanish cobs were collected from the beach, but there was no wreck at the site and nobody seemed to know how they had arrived there. Historians for centuries have tried to unfathom these fables, and at last the true identity of the Dollar Ship of Gower is told. As the coins were Spanish all considered they must be from a Spanish wreck. The author, however, favoured that the Dollar Ship was of English or French origin. We now know that the Dollar Ship was lost in 1647. She was a Dutch merchant ship "Princess" belonging to the Dutch West India Company with a fortune in coinage from New Amsterdam (later to become New York). This book travels through the research needed to find the truth of the Dollar Ship and how cannons, pistols, lead shot and silver coins came to be on Rhossili Beach.
