Some years ago the author became intrigued by a group mysterious ruins on a pastoral property in the mid north of South Australia and saddened that all record of them had seemingly been lost. The history has now been clarified and this resulting book explains how the Stewart family moved from the Barossa, north past Burra, to a cottage on Munjibbie Station in 1854; how three of their children died there; how they built and moved to the first homestead on their Meredey Run in 1857; how a wedding took place there, a grandchild was born and three other Stewart children also born; how the 1864-1866 drought forced them to retreat to another homestead which later became called Stewarts Old Station; how the Stewarts still could not recover and moved to Burra; how Alexander Stewart remade his life and came to lay the cornerstone of the Burra Town Hall; and why there are two Stewart Old Stations in the present-day South Australian Gazetteer, forty kilometres apart.The volume includes genealogical details of the Stewarts' eleven children and their numerous grandchildren as well as the Stewart family's close links to the Preeces of Burra and the Wilks of Mt Bryan.
