The Third Crystal is the second book in the fantasy/adventure/sci-fi series "Adventures in the Vortex." Craftily written for young readers and adults alike by authors Lane and Louis Lambert, The Third Crystal continues the intergalactic magical travels of young Midwestern cousins Sara and Tyler. A year older and a bit wiser in controlling their magical abilities, they will be severely tested in this new adventure. In Book 1, Sara and Tyler are mistakenly thrown into another universe and end up in the Vortex (a sort of intergalactic crossroads) and must find their way back home with the help of some quirky new friends. This time, joined by their old companions Mena ( a warrior woman from ancient Egypt), Dragonslime (a hapless and clueless wizard), Basil (the magically enhanced rat) and Barnabas (a powerful yet naive Vortexan wizard), along with assorted new friends and old foes, they scramble to prevent the entire fabric of the universe from coming apart at the seams as an evil mysterious force threatens the existence of everything. Forced to separate and go on their own quests, the group of unlikely heroes rushes to solve the mystery before it is too late. The Third Crystal is filled with wit, humor, and above all, adventure. It is as much a mystery as it is an adventure story, though, and is full of surprises. This book will make you laugh out loud (a lot) and it will make you think, but most of all it is such a well-written story that you'll hate to put it down.
