The Vision Project Coloring Book For Black Girls Who Rock is an ethnic coloring book that celebrates the unique beauty of Black girls and women. It is made up of digitally rendered portraits and Afrocentric symbols to validate Black enlightenment, kinky textured hair, tribal makeup, bold cultural fashions and really just encompass what "Black Girl Magic" is all about. The included drawings are based on The Vision Project art series of portraits of Black women by South Florida based artist and photographer Tracy Ann Simmonds. Each coloring page includes the use of mandalas for helping the participating artists and hobbyists in developing a mindfulness practice. The book's goal is to aid in the healing of Black women using tailored art therapy as a means for subconsciously internalizing self-esteem on a cultural level. It represents an unapologetic celebration of cultural pride. Those who appreciate diverse cultural studies will enjoy coloring these images.The process of creating The Vision Project art series provided a front row seat in witnessing the model's revelations repeatedly. The question "what is your vision?" seemed to provide some form of inspiration for most of them and even assumably the beginning of a subliminal healing channel within each, however subtle. It was intentionally decided not to share each vision entirely, through the use of illegible text, with viewers because it would become too literal and vulnerable. It could also have possibly lost the underlying objective for viewers to think about personal responses to the question of their own individual visions for betterment. Each coloring page extracts one line from the models intuition, the one thought that comprised exactly what it seemed they wanted to portray to those who interacted with them in this new way, exposing their innermost reflections.The Vision Project art series and The Vision Project Coloring Book For Black Girls Who Rock, have both opened up the idea that customized art therapy can lend a helping hand in how we collectively heal ourselves in the Black community, locally and globally.
