Spencer, in his early adult life, had a wide variety of experiences in commerce, industry and government, in which he was employed for several years. Over the years he got to know people of rural, suburban and urban settings. Having lived in a fair number of places in eastern North America, and having traveled in most other areas of the two countries that make it up, he has had a wide variety of experiences with people.
