A collection of essays about my life experiences and observations from different points of views. Being the mother of special needs children and having grown up with a special needs sibling gives me the advantage of explaining in greater detail what it's like to relate to someone who has the mentality of a little kid. Other essays such as This is Funny tell of the not so great moments when dealing with others who just can't seem to understand or don't want to understand our kids or what we go through. Some even mistake our efforts to get our children under control as harmful. Of course, most of us can relate to having a first set of wheels and the feeling of independence from our parents. Even if our transportation wasn't fancy it took us where we wanted to go. Hence, the name Thunderchicken, and Upscale Transportation. Don't Call Me Retard is a gentle way of reminding others that people with mental disabilities aren't stupid and the word "retard" shouldn't be used in a derogatory manner. Writing has always been a hobby of mine that I find relaxing and healing. When I am sad, angry or even happy, I can find relief in writing as the emotions are released on paper and I can see how I am feeling and what's going on inside my head. Over the years I have written poetry and some short stories but I especially enjoy the essays whether real or imagined, they are pieces of myself that I share with others. My hope is that everyone who reads this book will enjoy what's written and maybe want more. I was born Texas but raised in Tennessee. where my momma and brother still live. My dad passed away when I was nine but we have kept in touch with relatives on his side. I met my husband to be, Phil, through a mutual friend and the rest is history as the saying goes. He was in the Navy and during that time I had our two sons, Joshua and Zachary. Moving around and meeting new people was a perk I enjoyed about being a Navy wife.I also went back to school and took online courses and received a degree in Marketing and Sales. What an adventure that was. I am working full time and enjoy reading and spending time with family and friends. Reading is a hobby of mine that I enjoy and also drawing and writing which is one of the reasons for the book. I am constantly writing on paper for various reasons. Recently I have reconnected with some family members and discovered some new ones. I call it my online family reunion. I have also reconnected with friends I haven't heard from in a long while. What a treat I am now settled in Indiana where I make my home. My "guys" have provided inspiration for some of the content in this book and I hope that readers will enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing it.
