What had seemed a simple locate turns into a game of cloak and dagger, and no one is safe. Caufield needs a volunteer. Camponi reluctantly agrees. Once in the past, Camponi tries to change events, as he has inadvertently chosen a time just before his grandmother's suspicious death. He has forgotten most of what happened and must somehow piece the events together and prevent her death. Caufield warned him about changing events. Every action Camponi takes has a consequence, both in the past and the present. In the end, Camponi must prevent a murder in the past and unravel a conspiracy in the present, all while paying careful attention to every move he makes. What seemed like a dream, returning to his youth, has turned into a nightmare.
