From the first chapter disclosing the discovery in 2010 of Chrissy Foster's bones until the last words spoken outside a small town in Vietnam in 2017, UNLOCKED focuses on the Foster brothers, Luke and his older brother Moze. Luke has used five tours of duty in Vietnam to hide from the responsibilities of being a father and husband, assigning them instead to his brother Moze. Moze refuses his brother's offers to take his wife but eventually adopts and raises the children when their mother disappears in 1972.During a procedure called Deep Brain Stimulation performed on Luke's adult son Wally in 2017 for his Parkinson's disease, Wally experiences a memory from the night his mother disappeared, suggesting that Moze might have been involved. Because Wally has never accepted that his mother would have willingly abandoned him and his sister, he immediately reports his new memory to the DA's office, hoping to get the investigation reopened. Wally and his sister Lisbeth have always adored Moze and have no doubts about his innocence, even after a second incriminating memory is unlocked. An overzealous Assistant DA, however, has a different view. An investigation begins. Stress fractures appear between brother and sister. Moze's airtight alibi begins to leak when he discovers the source of his alibi is now struggling with dementia. And a witness claiming he saw Moze with Chrissy at a motel the night she disappeared comes forward. With his lies piling up and his children becoming increasingly upset at the Assistant DA's obsession with him, seventy-one-year-old Moze decides that it is time to tell the DA everything.UNLOCKED is a little mystery, a little history, and a lot of focus on relationships in the Foster family. Although the story at times appears to be a whodunit, inside that exoskeleton of mystery, UNLOCKED is all heart.
