This book contains ink and watercolor pencil drawings inspired by my memories of dissections done in high school and undergraduate studies at Eastern Michigan University. My aim of these drawings is to challenge the viewer into looking at some thing many deem as disgusting or vile . To see the "beauty" in something "ugly". The great master artist, Rembrandt painted "ugly" things in the course of his life. He painted sides of beef and other dissected things. Contemporary painters furthered this sentiment. Chaim Soutine and Francis Bacon also painted dissected images. I personally saw the painting by Francis Bacon, " Figure surrounded by sides of beef " at the Art Institute of Chicago .With a thin application of oil paint , Francis Bacon achieved an amazing image that you feel like you could reach inside the painting and grab the beef!! It is amazing !!! I could look at the painting for hours !!! My aim is for you to experience that same sensation while viewing my drawings !!! If you can get beyond the subject matter, these drawings are successful in their use of color, line, shape and texture. These "ugly" images deserve a second or third look. These images have as much merit as a portrait !! My hope is that you can see the "beauty" in these images !!!
