Description

Rumor has it that Nuala getting extra credit from her professors by doing favors for them. Nuala is a rabbit shifter, a prey animal surrounded by predator shifters who think she's sleeping her way to the top. Thankfully, her best friends do what they can to make sure that everyone stays out of her way, so she ignores the rumors, thinking that without merit, the unfounded gossip would fizzle out. Nuala just wants to keep a low profile, focus on her studies and graduate. But the rumors spiral out of control when she is made to confront an entitled Lion Shifter who thinks he can just take what he wants by offering to pay her for 'a good time' and matters become even more complicated when she inadvertently humiliates him in front of his friends. It doesn't help, really, that she is actually seeing one of her professors. But it's not what it sounds like. Professor Zac is different. The Alpha Werewolf makes her feel things that she wishes she could ignore. Too bad she's better at rejecting all his advances than at communicating. Complicated doesn't begin to describe the mess her life has become. ~~~~~ PG Excerpt ~~~~~ Something crashes through the trees up ahead. She freezes. She thought she had outrun him and the wind is blowing in her favor, keeping her scent away from him, but he is a better tracker than she had given him credit for. Something roars, not loud enough that the sound would echo. No. The point is to get to her with nobody around so he can get away with it. "Come out, little rabbit," the man growls, his voice guttural from all the fangs in the way. "I'm not going to hurt you... too much," he laughs like it's his own little joke. The man who had approached her in the library had not appreciate being made a fool of. "By the time I'm done with you, you'll be begging on your knees," he snarls. She shouldn't have run into the forest, should've made her way towards people. She panicked, wasn't thinking of anything besides getting to safety. She ignores his jaunts and keeps running, stumbling through the woods, thorns at her leg. A stitch blossoms in her side from so much running, but that pain is nothing compared to the noise of the massive beast trampling after her. She has to keep running. This isn't like in the books either. It's still bright out. She wasn't so stupid that she went out after dark, and the forest is thin. She knows it only stretches so far and no further, but she keeps running and running and there doesn't seem to be an end to it. Perhaps she's run into the magical part of campus, where things are enchanted to not make sense. A branch snaps behind her. She freezes and turns around slowly. She's heard it so clearly. She knows she can no longer outrun the beast. That's when she sees that it's not a werewolf hunting her, as she had assumed. It is not a terrible assumption to have made. There are more Werewolves than another other shifter kind. The man hunting her is a Werelion. That would explain why he can get away with things that normal people would get in trouble, then. Some Predator shifters are considered superior to others. Lion Shifters, especially, tend to have ties to royalty, to shifters in power who can make things very difficult for anyone who's just trying to live a peaceful life.
