This book shares knowledge, feelings, useful information, as a love story. A couple of major issues, God is Love. This is accepted in all major religions, and often completely overlooked. This book was written as a love story, several love stories: some sadness, some crimes, but all ends well, love wins out. This is how life should be, and how we should relate to life---love winning out. Does anything else matter, if love, God's Love, the supreme goal doesn't win out? Incidentally. This book is about a Christian family, but the values shared are far more universal. It was not the intent to proselytize. God is Love in all major religions. If you come away with a greater understanding of God's Love, great. God's Love is the unifier of all true faiths.True sex is an expression of God's Love. Failing to understand this is a failing built into our societies. Sexual fantasy develops during early teens through adulthood because we fail to gain knowledge at critical nodes of development, because we tend to suppress early teens from learning the realities of sex. I hardly agree with this. Sex leads to babies. In our world babies should wait till after high school at least, then marriage, more likely until after college. If we prevent children this age from practicing sex, they will grow up with fantasies, usually harmless fantasies. Two sexual fantasies developed by the characters in this book as early teens are dealt with----enemas, roughly 3 million American women and 300,000 American men have sexual fantasies about enemas---these, properly done, are harmless, only leading to extended more healthful lives. Roughly about fifteen times as many Americans have sexual fantasies about spankings. Spankings can be harmful or helpful. In both cases what was normal heath care and normal child care has been turned on its head in the Western world in the last 100 years. In both cases scientific evidence supporting these changes is missing. Enemas are one of the most motherly, safe and gentle tools of health care. Enemas are only painful in prolonged constipation with hard stools and disorders of the bowel, or wrong procedures in giving the enemas. Good enemas feel good. Statistically a single enema is less likely to cause any problem than a single aspirin---but they do interfere with another bottom line---profit. They don't make money for corporate interest, they only help patients. In When the Jonquils Bloom Again this delicate subject is covered extensively. This is an important issue because enemas are more effective than the drugs that replaced them in many conditions. An example, enemas were a universal standard for care of women in labor to stimulate contractions, and were successful in this. However, if the stimulation was premature, enema usually don't work, and no harm was done, and the baby came when it was ready. Enemas were replaced by oxytocin, which is more effective in stimulating uterine contractions, but sometimes succeeds when it shouldn't---oxytocin has been blamed in thousands of uterine ruptures and deaths. Another example: for many centuries enemas were successfully used in treating colds and flu by stimulating the immune system, etc. However, enemas must be properly done to be effective. The problem with spankings, and the quite correct opposition to wrongly given spankings, is that there must be rules about how and why and when to give them to make them a tool of correction, rather that an attack. Physical pain is one of the only modes of correction that is certain to make kids change their behavior. The purpose of the spanking is correction and must be well designed and carried out. So much in this discussion in literature lacks this objectivity. Some of the neurology and physiology of why spankings work this is in the book. Far more scientific studies and discussion is needed. The focus of this book is love, as read through the lives and growing up of Sharon, Amber, Aunt Mindy and the other characters.
