Beyond an incomprehensible boundary, separated from the seemingly infinite omniverse, lies Hevn, a tabletop world alone in a deep, starless dark. Upon its face a complex array of contrasting, often violently incompatible physics and cultures abide. Only a handful of beings share the truth of its creation and purpose. Significant among them is Shiric, the architect of the world and currently a prisoner upon it, albeit one who continues to wield a mighty technology, exerting God-like influence over his construct. Another is his adversary, The Fayne, who has been tasked with bringing order to a chaotic environment while insuring Shiric?s imprisonment remains uninterrupted. Narregan and Brin, paired members of a warrior caste, have been chosen by The Fayne to retrieve a primal relic from Shiric?s stronghold. The object is both a symbol of The Fayne?s authority, stolen from his predecessor in an age past, and in the right hands, a weapon of incalculable power. Faced with the shattering reality of Shiric, the fabled Ancient Enemy, the two find themselves displaced in time and space by the intervention of the artifact. Transported to Earth circa 1878, the pair are abruptly faced with a fundamental contradiction. Taught to believe their own world was all that existed, their disorientation is further multiplied by the inexplicable loss of the artifact, the deadly efforts of Shiric to recover it and the presence of Jonas, a half-breed drifter, witness to their precipitous arrival. Jonas, guided in part by his own enigmatic visions and by an inscrutable intelligence with unknown motivation, must find the middle path through his double nature. Narregan and Brin, abandoned on a world not their own, have only their formidable skills and unshakable faith in each other to sustain them against convoluted circumstances. Forces will converge to stop the improbable trio from making their way to the nexus of a cataclysmic Event, one that will provide Shiric with the means to engineer his release, and to an unknowable fate awaiting them all.
