Who are Americans? Could you answer this question? I have asked my American friends, who were born in the United States, but haven't received a clear answer, not yet. It was clear that the US is not simply a country of white and black Americans like in the novel "Uncle Tom's Cabin", although the novel was about a society that was not simple. Before them, there were Native Americans. History wrote that the first immigrants to the Americas could be from Asia, they crossed over Bering Strait since more than twelve thousand years ago. My friends who were born in the US talked about the journeys of their grandparents or parents from Europe to North America in the last centuries. Their stories helped me to visualize the courage and diligence of the first generations of immigrants. They have built the basic for the success of the next generations. Today in the US, it is easy to meet Hispanic communities. They came from Mexico or countries of Central and South America. In the cities, Chinatowns of Chinese and LittleSaigons of Vietnamese became familiar to Americans. Also I visited Little Havana and Little Moscow in Florida... Many residents of these communities were the first generation of immigrants. Currently, immigrants can legally reside in the US with various visas: EB-1 visa for extraordinary abilities like my visa; EB-2 visa for advanced degrees; EB-3 visa for skilled workers; EB-5 visa for investors; or family visas... However, there are also illegal immigrants living for many years in the US. Whether rich or poor, talented or ordinary, legal or illegal, for more than 200 years, all immigrants have the same aspiration to seek better opportunities for their life. Many of them found what they sought, their American dreams became true. They made a great America. It was the birthplace of inventions that change the world like Internet, Google, and Facebook... It is the place where many billionaires made large properties from nothing; and then they were willing to donate big parts of their wealth for education or to invest in science for future. Yes. America is great. However there is still no answer to the question "Who are Americans?". It seems that the question was easy but the answer was not easy. This book is the collection of 51 of my short stories about Americans and the US. It is more like a jigsaw puzzle than an answer. I hope that one day I will find the answer. Or maybe there will be no answer. It is like when we love someone or somewhere, we cannot answer why. If we could answer why, then it might not be true love, not yet. Perhaps that like me, many of you could not answer the question "Who are Americans?", but love this country and people here. Just love because love creates great things.
