After much thought I decided to put six of my short stories into a book. During the past four or five years I have flown around this country of ours a good deal. In every major airport I have checked out their bookstores, no short stories, other flyers I noticed were looking for the same things. These stories have been written during the past fifteen or twenty years, three are true stories, three are pure fiction, my own imagination. There are of course certain characteristics I have taken from friends, family and total strangers that I have observed. The names of the characters in two of the true stories have been changed, as has the locale for obvious reasons. A CHANGING NATION-NAVAJO WOMEN OF THE 90s is a true story, the people are real and as are their names. 9/11 has given all who fly the jitters and for good reason, a little humor canÆt hurt. As you read this book you will become aware that the people I write about are just like you and me. You see them every day, at the market, at work and at play. They are our neighbors, our family, friends, and colleagues. These are the Americans that I know, the ones who keep this country afloat, who keep us going one way or another.
