Description

Wounded but Not Dead follows the story of Victor Vimord, a young boy who is abused by his parents. As an indirect result of the physical and psychological abuse, Victor is expelled from school, due to his long list of behavioural problems. After being sent to a far-away Catholic boarding school, Victor becomes friends with Freddy, who leads the young boy astray on a path of delinquency, resulting in the murder of a fellow student. Expelled once more, Victor feels unwanted in a world that he doesn't understand. In his search for attachment, he finds himself in a mountain camp, befriended by Kimpôl, a fantastical and protective presence. Then, at the Manor of Woe, an unusual school dedicated to the rescue of troubled youths, Victor finds a friend of fleeting substance, Jung. Feeling responsible for death all around him, Victor grows into a young man whose educational, employment and familial aspirations are thwarted and who meets failure head on. Disappointed once more and having nothing to keep him in France, he decides to flee and go into exile in England, where he discovers the carefree lives of other young expatriates. But will Victor be able to forget the past and find his place in society - or will he be caught up in the nightmares that have haunted him since childhood?
