Awakened by frantic pounding, Joe Chandler opens his door to a blast of wind and rain, and two strangers on his front porch. They're on the run. She's pregnant. And, about to deliver. Earlier in Phoenix: Sherman Taylor overhears a conversation about a surrogate mother deal gone bad and his lawyer/uncle's plan to steal a relative's baby. He pulls his sister from her apartment and shoves her into his car. Loren thinks it's her brother's ploy to get her to a surprise baby shower, but they're on the run, leaving her midwife behind to escape their uncle's evil plan. Sherman leaves Loren and her baby in Joe's care and heads for Phoenix. He must get back before anyone links him to Loren's disappearance. Soon after he arrives, his uncle and the midwife question him about Loren, and a black sedan follows Uncle from the apartment complex. A few hours later Sherman is summoned to the hospital where his Uncle whispers, "Take Loren and run" before he goes into cardiac arrest. Conducting his own investigation, Sherman finds evidence that the hired thugs after Loren's baby will stop at nothing and they're on their way to Myrtle Hill. Can he stop this gangster client who believes Loren is the surrogate mother and her baby is his blood-kin and heir? Maybe, with the help of a team of retired cops; a Phoenix minister and Joe Chandler's volunteers in Myrtle Hill.
