Crossing the Jordan, everyone dispersed far in different directions and did not know about each other how someone fasts and struggles. If someone saw that another was coming towards him, then he went the other way and continued his life alone in constant prayer, eating at a certain time very little food. So the monks spent the whole Great Lent and returned to the monastery a week before the Resurrection of Christ, when the church with Waiami 2335 solemnly celebrates the Wai Way . Arriving at the monastery, none of the brothers asked each other how he spent time in the desert and what he did, having only one conscience as a witness. Such was the monastic charter of the Priyordansky monastery.Zosima, according to the custom of that monastery, also crossed the Jordan, taking with him for the sake of bodily weakness some food and the clothes that he wore constantly. Wandering through the desert, he performed his prayer feat and, if possible, abstained from food. He slept little; where his night catches, there he will fall asleep a little, sitting on the ground, and wakes up early in the morning and continues his feat. More and more, he wanted to go deeper into the desert and find one of the ascetics who could instruct him there. After twenty days of travel, he once stopped and, turning east, began to sing the sixth hour of 2336performing ordinary prayers: during his feat he paused singing every hour and praying. When he sang like that, he saw on the right side as if the shadow of a human body. Frightened and thinking that this was demonic obsession, he began to be baptized. When the fear had passed and the prayer was over, he turned to the south and saw a naked man, sun-scorched to black, with hair white as wool, descending only to the neck. Zosima ran in that direction with great joy: in recent days he has not seen not only man, but also animals. When this man from afar saw that Zosima was approaching him, he hurriedly ran deep into the desert. But Zosima seemed to forget his old age and fatigue from the path and rushed to catch up with the fugitive. He hastily retreated, but Zosima fled faster and when he caught up with him so much that they could hear each other,"Why are you, a servant of the True God, for whose sake you have settled in the wilderness, are you running away from me a sinful old man?" Wait for me, unworthy and feeble, hope for the sake of retribution for your deed! Stop, pray for me and for the sake of the Lord God, Who does not shun anyone, teach me a blessing.
