Description

Shelly Woods, a fiery, ambitiously successful, attorney is thrown to the wolves by her firm because of a mistake she made that no professional in the legal-eagle fast-lane should make. She left her boss's love-struck son at the alter, despite having the most justifiable reasons for doing so ... he was as boring as bat shit. Her firm punished her by giving her a poison challis, a career damaging trial from hell, where she is made to defend a monster of the worst kind, a crazy, racist, right-wing pedophile who made his living through piracy, people smuggling, and drug dealing. Exposed by the media for what he was, a satanic disciple who was the embodiment of everything we define as evil, and who swept the parents of an innocent twelve year old child, dying of cancer who he sexually abused with their consent, into his web. Shelly has already written off her case as lost and her only concern is protecting her place on the firms efficiency leader-board, but then as the trial progresses, things begin to somersault, and, while the indictments and facts are all correct, she alone notices there is a whole new story under-laying the one the world knows, and she which she is made to defend. Suddenly the legal top-gun is thrown through the Alice-in-Wonderland looking glass, where reality is distorted, where good becomes evil, and evil, good. The light romantic satire, has a heart wrenching tragedy as a backdrop, and the narrative transports you, like the transcripts of courtroom duels, through the legal battleground of the judicial process that ensues, as the young lawyer is made to view the world from a viewpoint that distorts our values of what is empathy, and makes her question every moral value she held dear. Named as the third party in an affair that shatters the happy marriage of her line-supervisor and having to deal with both his and her estranged ex-fiancee's rivalry for her affections, all whilst in the middle of juggling with the ever-changing testimony of a case that will destroy her career and change her life forever. Questions are asked about where is that line in the human morality code drawn, about the condition of world around us, and of those that we ask to control it, and monitor it for us.
