Description

"Blessings by the Dozen" matter-of-factly and with great reverence tells the story of his "Hang" family of Singapore during the greater part of the 20th Century. The Author has painstakingly put together this Book of Memoirs of his family's difficult and challenging childhood as they grew up during the Great Depression of the early1930's and World War II years. In non-fiction fashion, this book portrays the life of an Asian Chinese Singaporean and his family whose lives had been greatly impacted by the early Methodist Church in Singapore and Chi na. They have been greatly blessed as several family members have been educated in America and eventually settled down as American citizens. This book also tells of the many hardships and challenges of this Asian family as they grew up in a humble preacher's home. Theirs was a childhood filled with many uncertainties and endless struggles, often to survive the difficult times. It was their father's complete dedication to the ministry of God's Word, the Church, his family and his close association with the early American missionaries in Singapore and China that changed the course of their lives. Father Hang had left his homeland China in the early 1920's in answer to God's calling and an urgent call from the early Hinghwa Methodist Church in Singapore. He devoted his life to serving God and His Church which in turn brought many blessings to the family. "With interesting anecdotes, insights and loving memories, the writer takes the reader along on a journey through the life of his family and the difficulties of balancing a life that is suffused by more than one culture" wrote a reader. Readers will also find the writer's stories of his experiences and impressions of the horrors and devastations of a major world war both intriguing and interesting. As they struggled to find meaning in their lives, they were blessed with unique opportunities in various academic and vocational fields, thereby finding great opportunites in their lives, for several members to venture overseas to embark on their new lives in America and other parts of the world. On his first ever visit to his motherland China, the writer was deeply touched by his first impressions about China which are described in this book. Now in "Blessings by the Dozen" and in a tribute to his beloved father, the writer includes selections from a1969 compilation of his father's book of sermons and essays entitled, "My Christian Testimony" with a brief history of the Church in China, Singapore, Malaysia and South East Asia. In his testimonies, the author attributes all of their blessings to their loving heavenly Father, thereby giving all the praise and glory to the Lord! "A Great Story of Family, Love, Determination and Survival in extreme circumstances - Truly, "A Fantastic Read !".wrote:....J. Marsh Lane (Ravenna, Ohio) "I enjoyed so much the book, 'Blessings by the Dozen' by Paul Kee-Hua Hang, Jr. This is a story about a large family of 12 children who were the offspring of Pastor Paul S. H. Hang, Sr. and his dear wife. It tells the story of the difficulties and struggles of an unusually large Chinese Pastor's family who, because of his call of God, moved from China to Singapore, established a church, watched it grow, along with watching and overseeing 12 children grow. The amazing fact of this story is that all 12 of his children came to know and love the same Lord Jesus that the Senior Pastor Hang was serving.Perhaps the most wonderful lesson this book presents is: nothing is impossible when God is in it. It is only fitting that this story is told by Paul Kee-Hua Hang, Jr. Buy and read it! You won't be able to put it down!" wrote:...Jack Jacobs (North Olmsted, Ohio)"Paul Kee-Hua Hang, Jr. acknowledges his family's resemblance to that of 'Cheaper by the Dozen' ". Unlike the Gilbreths, though, the 12 'Hang' children faced great hardships in the 1930s and 1940s in Singapore where they were raised by their preacher father and his wife"
