Description

The novel 'Dreams of history' is an imaginative account of the life of Two Thieves who were crucified along with Jesus Christ. This novel is an attempt in depicting a period that exists only in our mind's eye. Who was Caiaphas? Who was Judas Kariatha? Why and how could the heinous Caiaphas bring a tragedy in the life of those innocent and pious brothers, the accused thieves, and their mothers, the twin-widows? Read and feel the Christian values. Ehud, a member of the Elite Council in Judea was a party which took the decision to kill all male children two and below years old in Bethlehem. He sat shocked when in one voice the members of the Elite Council hailed the decision of Herod to slaughter all male babies in order to eliminate Christ. He reached his home in Bethlehem quite depressed. Finally he revealed in the face of the mounting requests from his wives, Naomi and Lydia, the reason for his downcast. Yet in the same breath he assured them that as they were of Elite Council and their children, Jonah and Rachel, would not be harmed by Herod. Raffi who was doubted by none as a thief chose Ehud's mansion as his next place of operation. After midnight he was behind a bush of bougainvillea in Ehud's compound. Interestingly he noticed two persons from the mansion carrying two leather cases very stealthily in to an outhouse. He stole the cases and left Bethlehem for his home in Jerusalem assuming that those cases contained precious metals and stones. In fact the cases had the babies of Ehud in those. In an attempt to save the babies from Herod the babies' mothers only hid the children in the cases in the out house. In that horrible night only three male babies did escape from Bethlehem; they were Jesus, Jonah and Rachel. In a sub plot a love affair between Laban, a painter from low social order, and Ezra, a girl from high social order and of good wealth, and their elopement to Damascus and their success as the leading merchants are depicted. Laban's mother, Asher, was bedridden. She was in anguish on hearing about her daughter, Hannah's horrible plight. Forsaken by her husband she had given birth to a third child on the street. She felt disappointed for having given her to a rogue ignoring the sincere love that Helli had had for Hannah. Could Hannah have a life with Helli? Would Laban come back to Jersalem ever? Debona was too happier to have two babies than any amount of wealth. She requested Raffi not to return the babies. The woollen pieces with which the babies were covered bore each ones name as Jonah and Rachel. Read and find out what compelled them who had been known for their wisdom and goodness to attempt robbing in the house of Naomi and Lydia. It was a great irony that a father who had been a terrible robber through out his life and was never caught or imprisoned or not even doubted, had two sons who had been leading a very wise life were compelled to attempt a robbery once that too for the sake of that father and were caught and imprisoned. Who was behind their arrest and imprisonment? The latest twist that the many horrendous cases filed against them left Jonah and Rachel dumb bound. Tragically the one who would have rushed out to save them as the father as well as the true robber continued to remain in the unconscious state. One day morning Debonah in a shudder found that Raffi's body was lying cold and motionless. It took a few minutes for her to come to term with a fact that Raffi, her life time partner departed from her for ever. Debonah was the lone person alive on earth to tell to the world that Jonah and Rachel were the sons of whom. Whether Debonah could reveal to the world whose children were Jonah and Rachel? Naomi and Lydia were the world's most unfortunate wives for they lost their husband when they were very youn and they were the unfortunate mothers for they lost their only children. After about 32 years could they be fortunate to have their sons back?
