It's 1887, a caravan crosses the desert approaching Kaub. That night, brigands murder his family, and everybody, except for Ali Simbel, age 7. Adopted by Ammani, his father's friend, he begins as a merchant at 13, selling silks and jewelry in the market. With Tam (a son of the brigand who led the raid on the caravan) he starts an oil business. Ammani tells Ali he's wealthy, and should marry. Ali marries Tam's sister, Spring. They have two children. The Sultan's greedy Wazir has Spring legally murdered. According to law, Ali is buried alive in the Kaub burial vault along with Spring's corpse. Samir grabs Ali's assets and 'adopts' his children. Ali survives the vault, digs out, collects the burial offerings, gets picked up by a passing ship, returns to Kaub, and wins justice for Spring's murder. Ali rejoins Tam, marries Yasmin.. Ali sees future growth in America. He emigrates to Oklahoma, and prospers. He and Yasmin have three children. Ali builds a global business with his children. They marry people of other religions, and spread to other countries and continents. Ali dies content in the belief that his rebuilt and diversified family will survive and prosper after his death. His life's work is complete.
