Description

To my considerable surprise over the years, I have seen that only some abilities in research on giftedness and talent are of interest to Science, whereas others are more or less ignored. I have wondered for a long time why this is the case. I have also wondered many a time if we really are aware of which the possible effects are of gifted education, and of gifted individuals at the helm as social leaders. Social Science avoids this kind of problem out of fear or for career-strategical reasons. However, If a scientist needs to fear, then something is certainly wrong with the system in which we live and work This is exactly the topic of this essay: we adore heroes, we accept nerds and need them, but we are usually afraid of martyrs, or rather of what they represent. It has become my conviction, that it is what martyrs represent that need to be our starting point in understanding giftedness, leadership and, in fact, education
