Large size 8 X 10 Paperback Book - Joseph Hanson son of John Hanson (1616-1660) and Maria (c1622- ) of England, was born in 1655 in Stainland, near Huddersfield, Elland Township, Halifax Parish, Yorkshire, England, and immigrated to the British Colonies and settled at the head of Potomack Creek in Overwharton Parish, Stafford County, Virginia. In the Wills of Isle of Wight County, Virginia is found the last will and testament of Edward Rogers in which is noted on page 34, "Leg. - Anne Mathews, John Moore and James Bacon to whom I give 900 acres in Stafford County at the head of Potomacke Creek on which Joseph Henson lives, also all property in Isle of Wight County". Dated 19 Jan. 1683. Recorded 10 March 1684/5. Witnesses John Jones, Thomas Mason. Will Book p. 237. Taken from the "Wills & Administrations of Isle of Wight County, Virginia, 1647-1800". Book 1 was abstracted and compiled in 1938 by Blanche Adams Chapman. March 16, 1695 Land Grant to Joseph Henson for 391 acres in Stafford County, Virginia: Margaret Lady Culpeper, Thomas Lord Fairfax Ye To all Ye Whereas Ye do grant to Joseph Henson Ye bounded as followeth/ Viz /beginning upon the left by the run side and extending thence north forty five East two hundred and sixty six poles thence north forty five degrees west two hundred and seventy six poles thence south forty five degrees West one hundred and eighty eight poles tot he run thence down the run according to the several courses and thereof, containing and being now laid for three hundred and ninety one acres Ye Royall mines excepted Ye To have and to hold Ye yealding and paying eight shillings yearly Ye provided Ye dated the sixteenth day of March one Thousand Six hundred and ninety 4/5.
