James Morgan, killed in building a chimney, aged about 60, came from Wales before the Revolutionary War, settled first in Maryland and afterwards moved to North Carolina about 1780. His wife, Rachel Jack, came from Ireland; in the voyage, they were boarded by a pirate and their provisions were taken from them and they lived for several days on an allowance of bread about the size of a dollar, per day and very little water. She came first to Maryland and married a Mr. McReaden who died leaving a daughter Peggy who afterwards married John Phillips of Pennsylvania. By Rachel's marriage with James Morgan, she had, Hugh, Nathan, Enoch, James and Robert and Jane who married Major Samuel Bellah of Oglethorpe County, Georgia. Rachel Morgan died aged about 85. Hugh and Nathan married Pooles in Rowan County. Hugh's wife died leaving Jacob, Nathan, Hugh and Robert and Rachel and Betsy. Hugh Morgan afterwards married Miss Vinney of Mecklenburg and moved to Tennessee where he died. Nathan lived in Rowan County on the Yadkin River, and as far as known is alive now-about 90 years old (1853). His children are living around him, poor and contented. Enoch Morgan married Jane Ross, daughter of Nicholson Ross, killed while chasing wild horses, and Elizabeth Ross, a daughter of John Conger of Rowan on the Yadkin River. His wife was a Miss Moss.
