Description

FinishedAlthough He was weak, exhausted and in excruciating pain, Jesus was forced to carry a wooden, heavy, ugly and rugged cross down the road. Now and then, Jesus would helplessly stoop low and collapse under its unbearable weight. They led Him like a lamb for the slaughter. Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away. And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha. He was subjected to such ridicule. They hammered nails through His feet and palms. Blood squirted from the points where the nails pierced through His flesh. They hammered in the nails until their tips came out at the flip side of the cross. His wounded, blood-soaked and beyond-recognition naked body was pinned onto the cross. It became more intolerable for Him as He was suspended there like an unpleasant animal. He took on Him all filth of sin that even His Father rejected Him. Jesus cried out to the Father when the pain He bore reached maximum. He was carrying the maximum of God's wrath for the sins of the whole world. And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? This was in fulfilment of what was written by the Prophet Isaiah. He did it for you. Christ was despised, rejected, punished, pierced, crushed, beaten and whipped. He took your sorrow, grief, wickedness, sin and punishment. By it you were healed. Yes it was punishment indeed, but it was your punishment. He did not do anything to deserve it. He loved you so much that He took God's judgement upon Himself. He took your death sentence. He who knew no sin became sin for you. After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst. Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth. When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost. The word for it is finished is tetelestai. It comes from the root word teleo, that is, to pay. It also means to complete, execute, conclude, or discharge a debt. It means it is paid up. There's no debt. It's been finally and fully settled. There's no substitute to the finished work of Jesus Christ. The issue of sin and its effects was settled once and for all. In Christ, you are no longer bound but free indeed because of His finished work. The blood of Jesus shed on that cross was sufficient to repay the fine of the death sentence which was hanging on your neck. You don't need to fear anymore. The Father is no longer holding anything against you. He is against the children of disobedience who reject the truth of the Father about Christ and His finished work. He is not mad at you because the blood of Jesus satisfied His wrath against you. The blood of Jesus purchased your freedom from sin and its effects in every area of your life. Praise God! It is finished!
