Inclusive education addresses the learning needs of all children with a specific focus on those who are vulnerable to marginalization and exclusion. It calls for all children to participate in schooling and be treated equally. The workshop explores the fundamental elements for inclusive education within the framework of Education for All (EFA) such as legislation and policies, teacher training, curriculum development, capacity building, and community empowerment. Speakers on special education shared a case study of a Child Friendly School and tools for diversity at school and gender parity. The workshop also examines the linkage between EFA and inclusive education by referring to a study in Asia and Pacific countries on EFA, and the approach for such evolution to take place. The workshop summarizes strategies used to promote inclusive education as: (l) analysis of the whole education system; (ll) changing teaching practices through curriculum differentiation; and (lll) promoting gender equality. Participants of the workshop also contributed through group discussion a list of recommendations for country action plans in inclusive education.
