Every family has its story. Most often it lies quietly with its members, untold and unheard. It gets summed up along with all the other family stories in large numbers, analytic paragraphs and a few unclear photographs. The best of these stories end up as novels; making the author famous, but not the family. The story which follows here tries to show how the ebb and flow of the creation of a new Republic, a new society, brought individuals together at one time and place. How that epic adventure created a brand new clan: The Aldrich?Murphy Clan. The original families: Forte, Gibbs, Hagerman, Murphy and Aldrich, all came from the Old republic States of New England and the Southeast Coast. They move into cities of the south of the new state of Minnesota: Waterville, Hayfield, Pilot Mound and St. Paul. They then moved north to the Cutover to homestead land. There, just outside of Bemidji, in Wilton, they met and raised their families. Two of the Murphys married two of the Aldriches, creating a core of double cousins. Born after the Great War, growing up through the Depression, they became part of the Greatest Generation, fighting WW II. Then they dispersed around the country in the new Industrial Society. Here is their story based upon their letters, recollections and the memories of their children.
