Mitchell McCaffrey is back. He is about to marry the lovely Diana Corcoran Winstead, when the grand-niece of his late mentor, James McCormick, suddenly appears at the college where he works, wanting his help.Worse, when she appears, she is being pursued by werewolves, who work for the CIA. After a harrowing experience with one of them, Alyssa McCormick explains to Mitch that both Central Intelligence and the FBI think she holds the secret to a remote spying spell. She doesn't have it, but she believes it's contained in the books Mitch inherited from her great-uncle. She's also sure the FBI wants the same spell, and will trump up a prosecution against her.Alyssa wants to borrow the books. She also wants Mitch to help her get a lawyer. Her timing, right on the eve of Mitch's wedding to Diana, is lousy; but Mitch and Diana relent, and are reluctantly drawn into a cat-and-mouse game, both legal and magical, with unscrupulous prosecutors and supernatural creatures. They are aided, once again, by the legal team of Kathryn Turner and Marc Washington, and by their colleague Ben Callahan, who introduces another complication when he and Alyssa fall for each other - hard, much to Kathryn's consternation. As if things were not bad enough already, when Agents show up to search Mitch and Diana's home, who would be with them but their old nemesis Monica Gilbert, who is now a consultant with the FBI and is a more powerful witch than ever.Mitch, Diana and Alyssa all face prosecution and prison. Or worse.
