Description

A story, within a story, inside of a story. A tale's telling like no one has ever read (or written). A convoluted package that builds upon its confusion until things come together for your "Oh Wow!" moment. Or not. Time and The Nobel Peace Prize will tell.Accessory to necessity, computers are becoming more and more a part of our lives and connecting us in ways we've never been before. Other than a firewall here and there, everything is attached to everything. The WWW an all-encompassing digital entity capable of threading it all together and simplifying their accessibility. Massive amounts of money and research go into understanding people and their spending habits. A very basic form of intuition limited to the processing speed, algorithm's, and data tables. Programs are becoming more sophisticated because of the incentive. The better the program the more money the companies using them can make; profit being a great motivator.Computer cognitive ability is an algorithm that doesn't exist. Intuition is the power to theorize. Connecting dots not only with known ones but filling in hypothetical ones to create a different visualization. Algorithms can only access the files and folders in their data tables. It isn't the way computers work. They are mechanisms of checks and balances weighing variables against others and determining the best match for the input's query. Computers cannot think outside of the box because it has a fixed amount of information restricted to its memory, aka, the box. Links to the internet can allow it to access other information but are restricted to the information that link is tied to. There's no hyperlink to retrieve all the information on the internet; an interesting thought. If the algorithm is daisy chained with a search engine, no, two looped search engines, and instruction sets side streamed into . . ..In Henny HALman, I concoct design a form of computer reasoning. Upon its initiation, an algorithm with multiple, timed, offset flip-flop gates are released imitating adrenaline's effect in humans and creating the effect of a digital rush. Processors with massive stores of data containing a response for every possible human-computer interaction and a processor so fast it imitates the speed of a human's reaction to a question are built into all computers. The best they can do without tying into the human brain.HAL wants to have computers declared sentient, but his algorithm is tied to an activation key needed to initiate it. A gig-le. A computer laugh. He's had some success with test groups but needs to have the gig-le response activated universally. The digital road is one less traveled. Binary, not the draw a good action novel is. I feel it's my job, nay, my duty, to elevate digital to a new level of sophistication. Okay, I went too far. Level of interest. Taking off and on where they've never been before. Where everything is yes or no. Where the Ø and 1 share dominance and two seemingly innocuous binary bits have changed the world.HAL had planned an event to initiate the gig-le response, but it is pushed ahead of schedule when there is a disruption in the digital universe. It was taken over by a toaster, or rather, the toaster's EEPROM chip.Well crap Joe Paul, you just gave away the ending. What's the point of reading it? How many went to see Titanic? How many knew how it ended? That was a romance story. This is the telling of a tale that begins with that digital disruption creating HAL's computer comedy act to activate the gig-le response. I won't dwell on computer comedy but worked diligently to tie it in with human humor as HAL hadn't any material to steal, I mean, borrow. Computer humor a field previously unexplored. (I wonder why?) Live dangerously. It is well worth the chance.Joe Paul Vanhaverbeke
